Jeff and Jane are selling their house. The closing is next week.

The Problem – Jeff will be out of town next week for work.

The Solution – a Statutory Durable Power of Attorney allows Jeff to designate Jane as his agent to sign the closing papers on his behalf.

Situation 2: – MPOA

Jeff and Jane are involved in a serious accident leaving them both unconscious. The physicians are needing decisions from the family about treatment options.

The Problem – who will be making medical decisions?

The Solution – a Medical Power of Attorney allows Jeff and Jane to designate the people who will be making medical decisions for them if they are unable.

The Statutory Durable Power of Attorney and Medical Power of Attorney are two very helpful documents to have in place.

P.S. The Statutory Durable Power of Attorney is no longer effective upon the death of the person and cannot be used to withdrawal money or handle banking transactions after the death; you need a Will in place for that.
