When someone dies, what happens to their car?

There is a way for a person to choose (before death) who will receive the car upon a person’s death by completing these forms:
- Complete this Beneficiary Designation for a Motor Vehicle Form.
- Complete this Application for Texas Title/Registration Form.
- Take these forms to your county tax assessor-collector’s office along with proof of vehicle ownership (like a car title) and an application fee.
You will receive a new car title and the beneficiaries name will be listed on it.
