The temperatures are starting to rise in Texas, which means that summer will soon be upon us. Lounging by the pool, trips to Six Flags or planning your dream vacation are hopefully in your near future. Summer also marks the start of moving season. Typically, May through July are the busiest times for people to move to a new city, buy a bigger house or downsize to a smaller house. Summer moves are more common because getting kids settled in a new home before the start of a new school year can ease in the transition.
Common reasons for people to move to a new home include:
1. First-time home owners: This one is fairly self explanatory. People either move out of their parent’s house for the first time or move from a rental property to their first home.
2. Job change: In the business world, it is not unusual to relocate to another city for a different position. Moving closer to an employer is also a factor due to a long commute.
3. Relationship changes: Marriage or divorce can typically trigger a change in a housing situation.
4. Larger home: A move to a larger home could be the solution if your family is growing or if you decide to care for ailing parents or grandparents. In other cases, people just want more space at a time when it is financially feasible to consider a housing upgrade.
5. Downsizing: Downsizing your home can be a practical option if your kids have moved out or the youngest is about to head to college. You may decide that by downsizing you can save money on your monthly expenses and utilities.
6. Change of scenery: If you have lived in the city for your entire life, you might consider experiencing the country air. Alternatively, you may choose to move to the big city or even overseas to that place you have always dreamed of living in. People also move to a new city, state or country for a new beginning as a way to start over.
7. Aging: As we get older, there is comfort in moving closer to our family. Also, downsizing from a two-story home to a one-story home can make us feel safer and more comfortable.
